Sorry if you are offended by the title, but there was nothing nice about my day yesterday. It was, quite literally, CRAPPY. I will give you a run down, starting in the morning.
The girls spent the night at my grandma's house the night before so it was just me and Caden. We woke up late, since he didn't feel the need to go to bed until 11:00pm the night before. He is cutting some vicious teeth, so I think that has really put him in a funk. Anyhow, we went outside on the back porch like we always do every morning and he walks up to me with dog poop all over his foot. It was the really nasty in-between-his-toes kind of poop. I was gagging as I was carrying him out in front of me, trying to figure out what I am going to use to clean him. I knew I wasn't putting him in my sink or my tub, so I grabbed the Clorox wipes and went at it.
I put him in the bath tub as soon as I got all the poop off of his foot. I scrubbed him and decided that he could play in there while I did my hair and got ready (in my bathroom of course) for the play date that afternoon. He LOVES the bathtub. He throws a temper tantrum EVERY single time I get him out. It seemed like a good idea. Well, he wasn't in there 10 minutes and guess what he did??!! He POOPED. Ugh. He has NEVER done that. Seriously?? Why today. I had already had my share of poop-cleaning for the day. I didn't need any more. Apparently Caden thought I did. Absolutely disgusting.
We made it to the play date on time, and we had fun. I thought my bad-day streak might be over. Oh, I was soooo wrong. I had to meet my grandma about 20 minutes from where we were to pick up the girls. There are a lot of big trucks that travel this particular route so I thought I would be "prepared" and exit one exit earlier than I normally did so I could avoid crossing over 3 lanes in a very short distance. All the big trucks can make this task difficult. So, I exited early and that was a mistake. I got flagged over to the side of the road about 20 feet from our meeting location. I could see them, but couldn't get to them. Instead, I was behind some other cars on the side of the road getting a SPEEDING TICKET.
When the officer flagged me to the side of the road I figured it was just a random tag check or something. I wasn't worried because all my stuff was up to date. WRONG!!! He said " I clocked you doing 50 in a 35 back there." Crap. I had no idea I was doing 50 in a 35. I wasn't the only one, there was a group of us traveling at about the same speed. But, only a few of us were unlucky enough to actually be pulled over. I had to ask him exactly where he caught me doing 50 in a 35, and he just pointed and said, "back there...this laser goes really far." Sigh.
So, he proceeded to write me a ticket. He said he was writing me a ticket for 45 in a 35. How sweet.
I haven't had a speeding ticket since I was 18. My spectacular driving record had now ended.
After I picked up the girls we drove through Whataburger to get some sweet tea. I was so thirsty and was looking forward to a cold refreshing cup of sweet tea. Of course the girls are the first to take drinks of their tea, and Haleigh informs me that it's sour. I blow her off wondering if she really knew what sour tea tasted like. Well, she sure does. Blech. It was awful. $6 for 3 sour teas. What was I to expect??? Could something really go right today? I sure as heck wasn't u-turning and going back on the feeder I just came from...I was liable to get another ticket. So, we proceeded home. Thirsty and mad.
I fed the kids and then it was time to leave for Vacation Bible School. This was going to be the break I needed. From 6:00-9:00pm I was just going to have the baby to look after. Wrong again. Kendall wouldn't stay. Imagine that. I tried. She even had friends that she knew in her class. There was no reasoning with her. She just wasn't going to stay. I cannot imagine what her first day of school is going to be like. As of now, she wants to ride the bus with Haleigh. I hope that is still what she wants to on August 22 because once she gets on that bus there is no turning back. She will not have a choice.
Tonight one of Kendall's friends mom is going to come by the house and pick her up. We are hoping this will force her to stay. I know it sounds horribly mean but she is fine once she is there. She loves her friends that are there. It's just a matter of me leaving her. My fingers are crossed.
Oh, and there are a few important events to note:
Prior to Caden stepping in the poop, I found out that my town had a busted water line and that we had to boil all of our water. Well, this sucks because my son still drinks formula. I know, he may be a little old but he is completely addicted. This was very inconvenient. I couldn't just up and go get bottled water in my pj's so I boiled a pot of water until I could get some bottled water. Normally we just drink the filtered water from our fridge but I wasn't sure how filtered it really was.
I looked in my wallet excited that I may be able to squeeze a quick trip to Kohl's into the day before I picked up the girls. I had been anxiously waiting to use my $20 Kohl's cash. It expired the day before. Missed it by one stinkin' day. That's $20 down the drain. Grrrrrrr.
I hope I don't have another day like this for a long time....if ever.
The moral of this story is: If your kid walks up to you with dog poop on their foot in the morning, it's going to be a real crappy day.

4th of July Weekend
This is just a small part of our long 4th of July weekend. It was definitely not lacking action...but it was lacking fireworks. Because of the draught here in Texas fireworks were completely prohibited. It is just not the same without fireworks. Since we do not live in city limits and are allowed to do fireworks, the kids have really come to expect them. They were disappointed, but we still had fun.
Caden Loves Dirt!
Caden loves dirt. He is a dirt magnet. He loves to dig in the dirt and rub it all over himself. He also loves to sample the flavor of the dirt. Gross!! I do not condone this taste testing but sometimes it just happens.
